Bidding On Clothes: 7 Important Tips |
Why is it better to bid on clothes? The answer is simple; price and selection. Online auctions offer you a much greater selection than any store or mall can provide, and because there are more sellers competing for your business, the prices are generally lower. Here are seven tips to follow to ensure you get the best deal and your transaction goes smoothly:
1. Seek Reputable Sellers
We’ve all heard about scams where the buyer loses their money, but almost all of them have one thing in common – the seller has little to no feedback. Give credit where credit is due; nowadays online purchases are no more dangerous than brick and mortar stores, as long as you buy from trustworthy sellers with a great transaction history.
2. Check Guarantees & Return Policies
Most reputable sellers accept returns. If they don’t accept returns, they usually accept exchanges if the item ends up having a blemish or defect. If it’s being sold “as-is” you may want to look elsewhere. Whatever the seller’s policy may be, make sure you understand it before you bid.
3. View Actual Product Photos
If a listing only shows a stock photograph, email the seller and ask for actual photos. If they can’t provide that, then you probably shouldn’t buy from them. Fortunately, almost every legitimate seller out there nowadays knows they need to show real pictures on their auctions.
4. Check Back Near Auction’s End
If it’s a hot item that is getting a ton of bids, it may be a good idea to check back right before the auction ends. Sometimes, people will come in and bid during the last few minutes of the auction. So if it’s an extremely popular auction, keep this in mind. However when it comes to women’s clothes, usually there are more auctions than buyers, so odds are you should be able to snap up the item with little to no competition.
5. Pay With Credit Card
It’s always safer to pay with credit cards. Why? Because most offer their cardholders zero fraud liability on purchases. The American Express Gold Card and American Express Platinum Card even take it a step further – they’ll cover eligible purchases against theft and damage for 90 days. But if you don’t have an American Express Gold or Platinum card, don’t worry – by federal law no credit card holder can be held liable for more than $50 in fraudulent charges.
6. Understand The Shipping
Which carrier is being used to ship your item? Is signature required upon delivery? Questions like these are important to ask before the item is shipped. That way you can know when to expect the item, who’s delivering it, and whether or not someone needs to be home to sign for it. If a signature is required and no one is home during the day, you may want to have it sent to your office or friend’s house instead.
7. Inspect The Item
Once you get the item, carefully check it over to make sure everything looks okay. If you bought from a reputable seller, the odds are that it will be exactly how it should be. In the very unlikely case there is something wrong, contact the seller and let them know. Since they want to protect their reputation, they usually try and resolve problems as quickly and amicably as possible. In the worst case scenario, you can always take the issue up with your credit card company if you and the seller are not able to resolve it. |
